Above - Dornoch today. As at Killin and Oban Carrick portrayed his highlander wearing a goatskin jerkin and soft bonnet, creating a softer image of the infantryman as shepherd turned warrior.
Right - photograph showing Carrick putting the finishing touches to the Dornoch soldier. It gives a good idea of the scale of the figure. The original maquette can be seen on the left.
