The South African Scottish Regimental memorial in Burghers Park, Pretoria today (2006) (The photographs are supplied and reproduced by kind permission of Carl Hoehler)
Carrick advised the regimental memorial committee of his ideas on the layout of the memorial. Killin was laid out as a rock or heather garden and he advised that his idea was for 'creepers' to be allowed to grow in the wide joints of the cairn or pedestal and that native South African plants should be used. Judging from this photograph they took the advice to heart.
Above - Carrick's sketch on a letter to the Regimental Association noting some of the changes he intended to make in the soldier's kit to render a more accurate portrayal of a South African Scottish infantryman.
