Top right - A landscape in Flanders dated 1918 and dedicated 'To Major Henry'.
Aurel Sercu of the Ypres Documentation Centre has identified Carrick's scene as the town of Ypres with the famous ruins of the Cathedral and the Cloth Hall visible on the horizon. The sketch must have been made from a position to the north west of the town. Aurel supplied the photograph (right) taken from what must be almost the same spot shortly after the war.
My thanks to Aurel and Ian Abernethy for this information.
