Below right - 'Light Digger', an Australian gets a light from a comrade. The sketch shows Carrick's eye for line and form, as well as interesting composition.
Below left - 'This i'll do the digger', an Australian with his right arm in sling has picked up a 'Blighty Wound', sufficient to take him out of the lines to rest and recover for several months in England.
Mr. Ian Abernethy has researched into Carrick's war service and is convinced he was serving with the 30th Siege Battery which was next to an Australian unit. My thanks to Ian for all his help and information.
